Family Computer Projects

I am having so much fun doing the HERALD5 website! It's been great showing the kids what's going on as well. I don't think I have posted on here about them learning html, css, javascript, and jquery, but they are making great progress in those areas. They have a site they are working on right now that I think they will be very proud of. So, it's been fun working as a family on this stuff. Of course Jason is ALWAYS working on something, finding a new idea, or WANTING a new idea to work on.lol So if any of you know of something that might be great to have, whether it be a site, a gadget, or database integration software/code snippet, let me know and I will pass it along. Oh, if you want to check out the HERALD5 site, go to http://www.herald5.com  I will put up the kids' when they are done. I am so proud of them! It will likely be Charlotte doing the graphics and some html, Kaitlyn doing the javascript/CSS/jquery, and Toby adding much input and learning html. I can't wait to see how these little people flourish(even if it's something totally unrelated to computers and music.. ;) )

Ahha...so you're the one who took on that project...

One question...

Why .net?

why not?? lol It was easier for me, I don't know PHP, though I do have a wordpress site up for the members.

I was just curious. I'm definitely more of a PHP person, but I guess I would've gone with Wordpress for the whole thing. I guess, whatever works. It does look a whole lot better, that's for sure. Good work. Just so you know, the new TRB site is all on Wordpress. I only added a CSS file for the styling.

I thought about doing it in WordPress but I don't have a whole lot of knowledge with template design in WordPress so it was going to be more of a hassle for me. like I said, I did so some work in it. You can go to millikenconsulting.com/wordpress to see the site up. i have a couple of books that I will be reading to dive more into that. There is a plugin that I am interested in for school tracking. It looks interesting, thought I might design something for our homeschool. We have done something similar with Liferay, dont know if you are familiar with that. It is expensive to host but we were hosting it ourselves. It helped me do homeschool when Daniel was in the hospital. The TRB site looks great, I meant to say something when you updated it. I do wish they would put up more of the sermons though. Do you know the status of that?

I have to write up some documentation for the sound guys to be able to upload the sermons. They currently record directly to CD. I need to give them instructions for converting to mp3 and uploading.

I've heard of Liferay, but never used it. I can't see the Wordpress site you have up. As for templating, it wasn't that hard. I made a child theme, which was pretty simple, as simple as making a folder with a CSS file in it. I was then able to edit it via the Wordpress admin interface. I used Firebug extension in Firefox to find what I needed to override.

I forgot I have the site members only. I changed the logo and such but didn't start from scratch. It sounds simple enough. Maybe I was making it to complicated.lol I am also trying to run it in multisite mode. I just love firebug and Chrome's similar developer tools. It's so nice for troubleshooting.
